Simple Networking Question

I've been trying to connect my Windows/Linux Box to either the internet or
my college network, and I have been failing miserably (it has been a while).
The problem I think is the fact that my modem and network cards are
Windows PnP. I have Windows 98 and Red Hat Linux 6.2 on the same machine.
I just pulled out my internal modem from my machine and reinstalled a 3Com
EtherLink 509B-TPO PnP (standard ISA network card) -since I will be
returning to school. Of course the network card is recognized by Windows,
but once again, it is not recognized by Linux. I tried using the line "cat
/proc/interrupts" and my network card is not listed. I am desperate for any
help or answers. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Need net access on
Linux!! Thanks!
