slow netscape startup

You could always try turning off asnychronous DNS and see if it
helps:

 bash/sh/ksh:   MOZILLA_NO_ASYNC_DNS=True
                export MOZILLA_NO_ASYNC_DNS
 csh/tcsh:      setenv MOZILLA_NO_ASYNC_DNS True
