Linux on 486 boxen (RAM and HD limitations)

Jerry,

I've used a 486 DX/2 with 16MB for months: it's fine, even with
SAMBA, IPCHAINS, and printer functions on it. I only swapped it
out for my current 32MB Cyrix board because my cousing gave me
the Cyrix board.

One of our installfest potential attendees has a 486 with 16MB
RAM and
500MB HD. I'm comfortable with the 500MB as long as we don't
install
Gnome or KDE. I have not checked the Red HAT docs, but is 16MB
feasible with the Red Hat installer, using the mem= parameter. I
would
still advise her to have 32MB or more
