SB Live! question

I don't think this has much to do with the SB Live itself, but with the
fact that some applications change the mixer settings.  Many sound apps
have their own sliders, and they tend to retain their last set values
after you close them, and they will reset the volume to that setting when
they start up.

Quake is definitely an example of this.  I don't think there's anything
you can do about this.  Sound apps written for either Gnome or KDE should
go with the mixer settings set by their mixers, but applications not
written for one of these DTE's tend to do their own thing, by virtue of
the fact that historically Unix has had no mechanism to control the sound
for all applications.
