Yes, in the sense that all 802.11b are simply nodes like Ethernet nodes.

No, in the sense that mixing brands and models can cause bad things to
happen.  For example, several companies offer two lines, one which does
64-bit WEP and another which does 128-bit WEP.  Lucent Orinoco refers to
these are "silver" and "gold," respectively.  If you mix these and turn on
WEP, obviously there will be no connectivity between them.
