Very true, you should still turn off any systems that you don't need.  
Personally any ports I forward go to one machine which has the required 
services running, but still has a pretty paranoid security level.  Every 
other computer I have has just about every service turned off.  I figure 
someone will eventually get in so try and contain the damage.
