local linux laptop

We have found room in our budget to spend about $1K on a laptop, and as
luck would have it, PCs for Everyone is selling such a machine
(http://www.pcsforeveryone.com/notebook.html), with about the same
computing horsepower as the (three-year-old) desktop machine I'm using
now. Has anyone else tried using this machine (or others in the same
line -- I assume they have the same motherboard) with Linux? Are there
better deals out there?

I want to get a 802.11b card along with the laptop. The only kind PC4E
sells is D-Link DWL-650, which is not listed in the Hardware HOWTO.
Does anyone have experience with this brand, or should I just grab a
different card from CompUSA or some such?
