installing Linux on existing drive

I want to install RH 7.3 on an existing drive that is currently 100%
allocated to W2K. I have deallocated 10GB at the end of the drive via
Partition Magic but am unsure of how to proceed from here. PM says I should
have a primary partition before the 1024 cylinder barrier. RH installer
(Disk Druid) says the partition table has been improperly modified (meaning
PM). All this has me concerned about losing my existing W2K installation.
Should I create a small primary partition so RH will be able to boot?
Should I ignore the warnings... *shudder* ? My system consists of a
Soyo K7VTA PRO board using SDRAM, AMD 900 MHZ Duron CPU, 40GB ATA-100 HDD,
IDE CDR, S3Virge video card (yeah, it's way old), network card. Any tips
would be most appreciated. I'd rather not buy another HD, but I would be
willing to do so if needed.
