I disagree. I know that within the IT community, many email clients are set
to display HTML as plain text. Unless HTML is used sparingly, then this can
make the email virtually unreadable, which needless to say, makes it unread.

Those of us who are old enough to remember terms like Fido and UltraBoard
may also remember how to create art from text. My personal opinion is that a
well-formatted, well-written cover letter in text, and a targeted
Word-format r)Bésumé will likely get the most attention.

That said, what I feel is the biggest hurdle to getting an interview today
is the simple fact of getting your r)Bésumé read. I know if I was an HR or IT
person and received 300-4000 r)Bésumés for a single posting, my position would
be to read until I found about 10 potential candidates and then schedule
interviews. This means that more that 1/3 (and possibly more than 2/3) of
the potentially qualified candidates r)Bésumés would never even be seen. How
do you deal with that?
