I think your close. I have shied away from setting the ntsec environment
variable because my system straddles fat, ntfs, and samba. My cygwin distro
resides on my server and is accessed through a samba share. I use cygwin to
access openoffice, the gimp, and administrate my backups. Anyway I will have to
experiment with new settings.
