Funny you should ask. Do you have the same motherboard?

One or two devices work, like my CF card reader, and even then not fully. My
Dazzle multiformat card reader will read CF cards but not SD cards, which is
a real bitch for me, as that's what my PDA uses.

When I put in most USB devices, they show up in usbview, and the system
speaker beeps. When I try using them though, the program just locks up
indefinitely. For instance, if I put my Sandisk Cruzer 256MB USB drive in
there and type "fdisk -l /dev/sda", it just hangs, and even "kill -9" won't
kill it. Same goes for a USB --> IDE hard drive external case I have. I
tried both on another computer (running Red Hat 9), and both worked.

All of that was pretty disappointing because I bought the external hard drive
for backups (reduce the likelihood of taking the backup out with the rest of
the computer by putting it in an enclosure with a separate power supply), and
the Cruzer is to transport files to my client.

Up until I installed Suse 9.0, I figured my problem was that my Red Hat 7.3
was just too old. Now I think it must be a hardware problem. I thought
maybe I should try a separate PCI USB card, but I don't have any empty slots
(I have SCSI, two network cards, sound card, and firewire connector bracket).

All this frustration on top of SuSE not working for me.
