iPod on Linux?

The Rendezvous feature is a feature of iTunes, not the iPod. I'm not
sure how you would use the iPod with Linux, but since its just a
firewire drive, I would assume that as long as you put the mp3s in the
right place, you won't be missing much.

If you put text files in the Notes directory, you'll be able to read
them on the iPod. You can also transfer your Calendar and Address Book,
though I don't know what format they need to be in. I think iCal uses
the same format as the KDE calendar, though they seem to have some
slight incompatibilities. I would guess the Mac doesn't do any format
conversion before putting the files on the iPod, but it might. The same
goes for the Address book.

I would guess the only really useful features you won't get from your
iPod will be Software updates (extends the battery life, etc), and play
lists. Perhaps the playlists are stored in the standard format, in
which case I might be wrong. Oh, of course you won't get plug-and-play
autosyncing of all your mp3's (well, not without writing some custom
scripts), but since your a linux user, you can probably deal with that.
:)
