spam control again

   Well I think this horse has been pretty thoroughly flogged at this
   point, but I'll add another 2 cents: what seems to be advocated
   above (if you'll pardon another of my neighborhood analogies) is a
   society wherein folks have to do one or both of the following:

   1) Erect tall fences to keep neighbors from seeing you
   2) Move away whenever the neighbors get annoying

In other words, live in an armed camp, stay invisible, don't trust
anybody, don't list your phone number.  That's no way to live, and
it's no way to deal with the spam problem.  If that's what everyone
has to do, then the spammers have won (I suspect that at least some of
them simply want to destroy the net).
