Remote presentation

There has been a discussion on the BUG member list about software that
will allow the screen to be displayed in real time to remote users.
possibly a way of broadcasting the display, like setting export
DISPLAY=*:0.0

The intent is to allow a user group to broadcast a presentation. 

Here is Pat Tormey's initial request:

I'm looking for a tool that will support "projecting" UG meeting to a
remote
audience both real time or asynchronously.
 
The Idea is to allow members to attend virtually with two way
discussions
and/or allow meeting downloads for later viewing.
 
I don't think real time video streaming of the presenter is that
important
I'd be content if we could capture the computer screen and audio.
 
Anybody know a place to start my search?
