You need to populate it. Here is a copy of mine:
nameserver 204.127.198.19
nameserver 63.240.76.19
nameserver  216.235.240.11
search comcast.net

These are Comcast DNS servers. You can check the status of your router,
and it should list the Verizon DNS servers. It is usually best to use
your ISP's DNS servers because they are closer to you in number of hops,
but nearly any solid DNS server would do.
