FWIW, I'd go with Comcast. The cable modem connection is straight
ethernet/IP. Verizon DSL is PPoE. Linux has no trouble with either. I do
recommend an external Cable modem router (or more sophisticated
firewall). There is a lot of port scanning going around, and even with
Linux' good firewall protection, the port scans and attacks on port 80
et. al. take up CPU time, and your firewall software logs it all.
