I think Microsoft has shown the benefit of this approach. By
ensuring that any install loads a full suite of tools onto the
user's system, programmers don't have to be inconvenienced by
learning unfamiliar tools.

"Hey, can we stick WINE up so I can run VB stuff?"

Isn't there the remote possibility that some of these tools aren't
there because they're not WANTED there?
