Linux says "booting the kernel" and then locks up?

[I'm resending this -- I don't think it went through the first time]

Hi all,

I'm trying to boot Linux on a Pentium-120. I built a 2.6.6 kernel and
put the bzImage on a floppy and ran lilo on it, but when I try to boot I
get the following:

LILO 22.5.6 Loading gentoo..........................
BIOS data check successful
Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.

And then nothing.

I used the "Pentium-Classic (M586TSC)" processor family and am building
with gcc 3.3.2. Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong or where
to look?

I tried using bare.i from Slackware, and it booted, but I don't think it
detected my network card, and I want to be able to mount root over nfs, so
I don't think I can use it. But I know it is at least possible to run
Linux on the machine.

Thanks in advance!
