Linux install problems (ls mystery) solved!

Regarding the ls time format "how do I get YYYY-mm-dd" question:

To keep the old behavior, Use the computer facing East.
To get the new behavior, use the computer facing North.

:-)

Hint - My East Computer (Old stable production environment), is
running RH 7.2.  My North computer is running FC3.
(guess which one I answer my mail from... )

John, I'm sorry for my initial out-of-date answer.  I researched
it using the rh7.2 system (which is 3 yrs old) thinking that ls had not
been significantly changed since since the first GNU efforts at
internationalization.  But...

The GNU tools have been significantly modified in the intervening three
years to have much better support for internationalization.  In fact. the
initial changes slowed Linux down so much that many people noticed and
complained that things were broken.  I believe this was done as far back
as RH8. (about three years ago?)

I want to say thank you to everyone who noticed and spoke up.  (I learn
so much more when I'm wrong on the list!)  And for not leaving John 
with the wrong info.
