For $50 from NewEgg you can get an ATAPI DVD multi-writer..  It supports
CDRW/DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD+R DL (8.5GB!)..  Not a bad deal, IMHO.  It's the NEC 3250A
(IIRC), and I'm 99% sure it works just fine on Linux.
