WRT54G Distribution questions

With all the chat about the WRT54G's, I thought I'd share my
experience this weekend. I decided to try an alternative firmware, so
I searched around and considered SveaSoft, DD-WRT, and OpenWRT.

I ruled out OpenWRT as too much work. They didn't have a nice 'this
is how you do it' guide, and I didn't feel like needing to shell in
to my router to make changes. Maybe OpenWRT has a configuration
webpage, but it wasn't obvious from their homepage.

I looked at SveaSoft, but after reading their own home page, as well
as the pages of people who post their firmware freely, I decided I'd
rather not deal with SveaSoft. They don't seem like a trust worthy
bunch.

I decided DD-WRT, a fork of SveaSoft, was reasonable, so I installed
the latest version. I liked the options, though the webpage didn't
render 100% correctly in Safari. I liked the ability to boost the
power, though going from 28 to 50 didn't seem to make much
difference. Unfortunately, I found I lost internet connectivity after
about 10 minutes and had to reboot the router.

So after all that, I ended up reverting back to Linksys's latest
release, which at least is stable.

I'm curious if anyone has any comments about my experiences.

I have a WRT54G v2.2, if that matters.
