What makes you say that?  I'm running a mail server with no problem (I'm
using Comcast).

Make sure the
DAEMON_OPTIONS(`Port=smtp,Addr=127.0.0.1, Name=MTA')dnl
is commented out from /etc/mail/sendmail.cf, otherwise your sendmail
will not accept connections from outside.
