The adapters cost about $35/pair, and they're a godsend in cases where only Cable Coax is available: mostly apartment houses wired in the seventies and eighties.

Of course, they're not the first choice if you have (or are willing to pull) CAT 5 wire,  but the adapters are all you need to use an existing pair of Ethernet ports when there is unused RG-59 coax between them, and a wireless installation, counting router/AP and cards for each PC, will cost a lot more.
