APT or RPM Re: Linux on a laptop ... step 2?

Well that's true -- I have very little invested in 'dpkg' per se.
I've learned the 'apt-*' commands I need, but I've also bought into some
of the Debian philosophy.  Does APT for RPMs do as good a job with
dependencies?

(I'd really rather make Ubuntu work on the laptop and not change the
Alphas.  I do need to learn more about pkg creation and pinning and
modprobes ... but if it's going to be easier to switch laptop and Alphas
to FC3, well, that would be more compatible with the RHEL that we've got
at the $DayJob so there's some advantage, I suppose.)
