Are you referring to:

  # General apt options that will be passed to all apt-get calls.
  # Use "-o quiet" instead of "-q" for aptitude compatibility.
  OPTIONS="-o quiet=1"

in /etc/cron-apt/config?

As you can see I'm already using the supposed equivalent for aptitude. 
Neither '-o quiet' or '-o quiet=1' seems to have any effect on aptitude 
when I invoke it directly. The aptitude reference manual doesn't even 
document such an option. The options follow a general format of 
Aptitude::*, such as Aptitude::CmdLine::Verbose=1.

Perhaps I'd have better luck if I reverted back to having cron-apt use 
apt-get?

I guess I'm just disappointed that after all the configuration files and 
supposed flexibility of cron-apt, it doesn't seem to handle the most 
basic and common situation well.
