It's not really the static link, it's the fact that there's 
dns, so I can refer to it as serpent.laymusic.org.  But the static
link makes that easier.  I also have reverse dns so that I can run my
own server.  I had a lot of problems when my line was down last spring
and I was on dialup.  (I made a list of them on my blog:

Yes, I know I could have eventually solved them
all, but it was nice getting my DNS back.
