Are you certain you're fixing it with
if (isset($_POST['VAR'] ))
	$VAR = $_POST['VAR'];

Should it be

if (isset($_POST['VAR'] ))
	$VAR = $_POST['VAR'];
else
	$VAR - {some default}

Otherwise VAR is left hanging if $_POST['VAR'] is not set.
