I've had a lot of trouble where LCD monitors don't report EDID info
properly.  The latest X (whatever came with FC6) or a new nvidia driver
seems to have solved that issue for me though.

You might try putting together a minimal X config by hand, and running:
 startx -- -logverbose 6
to get a bunch of data (including the probed EDID data) to the log file
(/var/log/Xorg.0.log).  Look for lines starting with 'EE' or 'WW' in the log
file.

If you want a minimal X config for FC6, I can mail you mine (you should only
need to change the video driver; there is no monitor section needed).
