high false positive with Gmail

I just looked through  the  most-recent  200  messages  in  my  gmail
account,  and found one false positive.  The inbox hasn't had a false
negative for a couple weeks.

Actually, several weeks ago there  was  a  rash  of  spam  and  phish
messages  that  got  through  the gmail filters.  I flagged them, and
after a few days, things went back to normal.  I read reports of this
in a few places, but I haven't read any clues about what happened.
