Starting sshd is simple.  Go to Preferences.app, Select "Sharing" and  
click on "Remote Login" under the "Services" tab.

The root account on OS X is disabled by default.  You will need to  
change the password via NetInfo.  It's better to assign some as an  
Admin and use su and sudo, etc...
