ah, no luck.  new error messages stream by faster than my short term 
memory challenged brain can handle.  the end result is no usb.  crap.

as a side note:  i was hoping a bios update would solve my problem. 
from my brief search it seems the A8AE-LE is an hp special.  i went to 
update the bios and oddly what's offered on their site is older than 
what came with my computer.  they have 3.13 - 11/15/2005 yet i'm already 
running 3.4 12/13/05.
