I haven't used a Cisco router, per se' but we used a Cisco Local 
Director a while back when I was at FAST. After that, we used an Alteon 
system at another job. Last thing I used was Linux Virtual Server.

I think the web server load balancing is pretty pedestrian these days 
and a couple fairly modern Linux boxes running LVS will do almost 
everything you could want at that level. I doubt anything would beat 
them on a gigabit switch.
