To turn NM off, go into System/Administration/Services and turn off=20
network manager. From the command line use chkconfig. On my system:
sudo /sbin/chkconfig --list NetworkManager
NetworkManager 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:off 4:off 5:off =

6:off

To turn is off for run levels 3 and 5:
sudo /sbin/chkconfig --level 35 NetworkManager off

Then go into System/Administration/Network to configure your network. I=20
had the same problem with Fedora 9, but Fedora 10 preserved the settings.=
