Replacement firmware for Linksys routers

Thanks for reading this.

I'm going to set up a Linksys WRT54GS for use as a wireless client: it 
will connect a "garden variety" WiFi Access Point to a PC which has only 
an Ethernet card installed.

I've found out that more than one set of firmware is available: I had 
thought that OpenWRT was the only option, but now I know about dd-wrt 
and hyperwrt as well.

If you have worked with OpenWRT, hyperwrt, or dd-wrt, or other software 
for the Linksys, please pass on your opinions about how well each works.

Here are the features I need:

* Wireless client capability; wireless bridge would be nice
* WPA and WEP capable
* "Set and forget" stability
