After catching up on this thread, I bought an OEM version of Windows XP
Pro SP3 for $140 on newegg with free shipping.

Yes, that's right, I'm paying *double* Windows tax.  My laptop came with
Vista.

I'll probably upgrade Ubuntu, too (I'm running 6.04).  My server is
running Fedora 8, but I don't feel the need to upgrade that anytime
soon.  That server runs a LOT of services.
