I used wxWindows (wxWidget) to create fairly sophisticated engineering
software that displayed stress/ strain distributions and failure
characteristics of rock using 2D graphics.  The software communicated
with the user by providing nested  gui windows.  I also wrote the same
software using MS Visual C++.  It was much easier (more logical)
programming with wxWindows  than it was using MS Visual C++ and their
flagship IDE Visual Studio.
