HDTV storage needs

how well does a firewire connection to an hd stb grab video?
what resolution and data rate?

How stable is the myth support for the hd-pvrs?  Doesn't it require
using myth trunk?  I'm a little loathe to run bleeding-edge software but
I really am looking forward to using hd-pvrs.
