Why digests?

I don't get the digest version of the BLU list, but there are a couple 
of lists where I do. The lists in question are high volume (one gets 
about 50 messages a day); they have a low percentage of posts that 
interest me, but sometimes have announcements that I want to see in a 
reasonably timely manner. By getting the digest I can see whether there 
is anything of interest quickly by scanning the message titles, possibly 
disposing of 20 or 30 messages by looking at one screen of text.
