Thanks, that's a good suggestion. I'd normally think of that in 
regard to desktop machines as a lot of them arrive useful for 
spare parts; in this case it's a laptop and those arrive far more 
rarely... but I may be able to find a broken one with a usable 
drive.

Hadn't thought of that. M<akes a lot of sense except in this case 
the part under the missing keycap (thanks I'd forgotten the 
correct name for that) doesn't seem functional. But I'll try it; 
maybe it'll respond better to a keycap than to my index finger.
