I haven't tried editing with Avidemux, but the UI doesn't seem to be 
optimized for that. The screen shot of PiTiVi looked more like what I'd 
expect for an editor. I've bookmarked it for future reference.

Arista looked useful enough to install. It provides a collection of 
presets for transcoding to various targets. What I couldn't figure out 
was how you can customize the presets. It really seems to be 
"point-and-shoot" with no options for cropping, bitrate, or anything else.

Unless it can be tuned, I think I'd stick with Avidemux, where there is 
greater control, but useful defaults, and the ability to save a working 
set of settings.

Screen shot looked like it was still in an early state. No presets or 
video preview, but more options than Arista.
