I have learned, through many burned DVDs turned coasters, to burn at the 
slowest possible speed.  Fewer coasters.

Many/most DVD burners these days support +R and -R, and, at times, you may 
come across a CD drive that is really not a DVD drive, but you may still 
try the DVD in it, thinking it may read the DVD.   There are exceptions - 
some drives are +R or -R only.

Just a few of the things I've come across and learned as time passed.
