This has been mentioned before...desktop Linux. More specifically the 
tweaks and enhancements that take you beyond the vanilla configuration 
you get from a fresh distro install. For example, this article:

While emulating OS X isn't my objective, the article illustrates some of 
the steps you need to go through to bring a stock Linux install up to 
the level of a modern desktop environment.

I'm not sure who would be a good candidate to give a talk on this, as it 
doesn't focus on a particular project or even distro. Maybe an author of 
a book or column on desktop Linux? Or maybe a collection of lightening 
talks from BLU members who are long time desktop tweakers?
