For what it's worth I'm running Fedora-12 Firefox with the evince PDF
plugin, and it seems to work pretty well!  So I think I'm okay not
having AdobeReader installed.  I might've installed it if they had a
64-bit version, but since I got evince working (with mozplugger) I see
no reason.  The only thing I have yet to do is:

  ln -s evince /usr/bin/acroread
