wireless connection

I use the DLink dir-655 with zero problems.
Generally, addresses from .2 to .99 are used for static IP addresses. My
printer and my desktop computers are set to static IPs. My Acer Aspire
One (Ubuntu 10.10) is set to connect via DHCP.

The main thing you need to do is to edit connections. At the top of each
connection is a checkbox "Connect automatically". Make sure that the
static IP connection (.3) is set and that the dhcp one is unclicked.
