Indeed. Though it's tough finding a parallel port these days. I picked
up a USB to parallel port converter at Micro Center for under $10 a
while back with the thought of using it for a hardware hacking project,
but haven't come up with anything useful to use it for yet.

That's a classic. Somewhere I have a small LCD display that was wired up
to a parallel port with the assistance of that book.
