Thunderbird does have its issues from time to time, but I have to admint
that I haven't been able to find an email client better than it these
days. And I've definitely looked. (Last year I was having some TBird
problems, and I kicked the tires on a whole bunch of clients.) Ages ago
I used to use KMail (and Eudora before that). But today TBird seems to
me to be the most functional email client around: available for both
Linux and Windows, good support for both POP and IMAP, excellent support
for multiple email accounts, good spam filtering, very good mail
filtering, support for add-ons (allowing me to add really awesome
complementary functionality like the SearchWith add-on), etc. So
despite it's periodic problems, I think it's still the best there is.

Dunno ... I don't think I have any good suggestions for you. Sorry! :-(
