It may be Hooey, but the one computer law class I took helped me understand that
legal doesn't have anything to do with right/wrong or logical.
Patents are just a license to
sue to protect your patent rights.

In addition:
We don't have a legal system.  We have a system of laws.  If we are
lucky we get legal to approximate 'right'.

...

If you really want to effect things, the laws need to be changed.

The ruling about software not being patentable, is a bureaucratic
issue.  It can be overturned.  But it takes lots of $$ to do that.
