Yeah, see, having an actual RAID controller on board costs money.  For the kind of money you're looking to spend you are going to be stuck with a JBOD controller and using the Linux software RAID to do the replication.

If you can budget up to $200 then I recommend 3Ware's controllers.  Real RAID, reliable kit, good tools.
