My Dad lives in the boondocks up in NH. About 7 yrs ago, VZ was forced by
this tiny little hick town (pop 4,500) to offer cabling to the whole town or
they would get none of the town... My Dad lives about 100 ft away from the
town line, in the furthest reach of the town limits. He has 4 miles of dirt
road before the closest pavement, and a half mile long dirt driveway and no
telephone poles. (It's all buried underground.) He subscribed to the
cheapest offering they had, something like $35/mo. VZ came out there with a
crew of men, dug a trench, ran a half mile of cable to the street (and of
course all the cable along the road), provided the routers & junk in the
basement. They must have lost $10k or $20k on my Dad's house alone. Later
they pulled out of town, and gave it all to Fairpoint.

So if they would be willing to wire up my Dad, I'm surprised they wouldn't
be willing to wire up Boston.
