Linux Engineer to join the IT Infrastructure team in Boston based finance company.  This team is responsible for the design, maintenance, security, recovery, and support of Windows and Linux environments, including servers, software, security, and patching.  This individual will solve general and complex Linux issues, collaborate with various development teams on engineering, implementation, and operational tasks while offering a perspective from a network, hardware, security and operating system level.

The successful candidate will be able to work efficiently in a fast paced environment, analyze technical problems and create solutions involving the use of existing techniques and tools. This individual will join the Linux team, which is responsible for daily Linux admin/support duties, including on call support and proactive monitoring, as well as contributing to implementation and overall design of the Linux environment. The Linux environment must meet high performance and availability requirements, as it is a critical component of the Investment and Research operations of the firm. The candidate will work with these business teams to design and support solutions that meet their needs. The candidate must have experience implementing standards for configuration, as well as management and deployment of Enterprise class Linux systems.


Requirements:


 *   BS degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, a similar technical subject, or six or more years of related work experience
 *   Three or more years engineering experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, shell scripting and supporting a 24x7 datacenter
 *   Two or more years' experience administering Unix servers in an enterprise environment
 *   Three or more years of hands on experience with enterprise server hardware
 *   Three or more years experience conducting and participating in technical review meetings with internal and external representatives
 *   Two or more years' experience supporting open source or proprietary applications on Linux or Unix utilizing command line tools
 *   Demonstrated proficiency with NFS, TCP/IP, LDAP, SSH, DNS, SMTP, load balancing and troubleshooting
 *   Strong analytical and research skills -  must be detail oriented
 *   Experience with documenting, communicating and ensuring system compliance
 *   Capability to effectively interact with external people on technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations


Preferred:


 *   Performs systems administration tasks primarily via command line
 *   Skilled in scripting bash or ksh (perl or python is a plus)
 *   Linux and Solaris System Engineering experience for project related planning and implementation
 *   Previous experience with SAN/NAS storage, NFS ACLs, and Samba on Linux or Unix (NetApp or HDS enterprise storage management experience is a plus)
 *   Demonstrated ability to work with a team and troubleshoot problems with speed and efficiency
 *   Experience supporting or deploying solutions for the following areas: patch management, performance tuning, monitoring and system security
 *   Proficiency with managing virtualized environments and data unification between Linux/Unix and Windows (ESX, AD or single sign-on administration is a plus)
 *   Knowledge of blade and rack server hardware management
 *   Previous experience supporting Linux based solutions for financial markets
 *   Bladelogic v7 or v8 experience
 *   Centrify v4 and v5 experience
 *   YUM package controller experience
